Hello there.....
Wow, I knew I hadn't posted in a while, but didn't realize that my last post was back in December! I am certain that I wouldn't have known, if it hadn't been for the quick "hello" comment that Liesl left the other day. (Hi, Liesl!)
Things have been insanely hectic around the snowcentral abode since January. I foolishly agreed to chair the silent auction at M's elementary school, and it has eaten up every ounce of free time that I have (well, the free time that I'm not on Facebook playing Lexulous, at least!) ;-) It turned out that I wasn't just chairing the committee, I basically *am* the committee. It's been very tiring, time-consuming, and did I mention that it's been tiring? I have been forced to go way outside of my comfort zone, soliciting donations, following up with places, and being very outgoing. I'm ready to be done with that and go back to my little bubble.
Thankfully, the auction is just three days away and then I will be zipping up all of the files that I have compiled, sending thank you notes to our 100 or so donors, and happily pass all auction-related info to the poor sap lucky soul who "chairs" next year's committee. I am anxious to see how well the auction does this year, though with the economy the way it is, it will be difficult to compare to previous years. I feel good about all of the donations that I was able to get, however, and am happy that I was able to help out the school. I'm also really ready for a nice long nap.
Other than the auction, we've been up to our usual stuff. I was able to get back to Tae Kwon Do, and am pretty much recovered from the broken foot. This week, actually, I tested for my purple belt, and am cruising along trying to catch up with J (who is now a super-brown belt). She and I, hopefully, will be able to test for our black belts in the middle to end of 2010. P and M are working hard at TKD, as well, and are scheduled to test for their black belts in just a couple of weeks. We are not 100% sure that M will test, it will depend how she does at the training sessions this weekend and what our master thinks. If not this time, then sometime later this year.
J is excitedly anticipating starting kindergarten in the fall, and we'll be registering her at the school next week. She can't wait to join her big sister at the elementary school and ride the bus with all of the other big kids.
Since I haven't been blogging, I also haven't been recording those cute little kid moments that occur all the time, and will be forgotten before I know it. The other night, while eating dinner at a steak restaurant with some friends, J wanted to order her dinner like the other big kids. She proceeded to order the kid's steak, and P told her to order it "medium". She then said, "I'd like the kid's steak, please, medium-sized." We were quite amused.
Everything else is moving along as usual, the laundry continues to pile up (two mountains are staring at me across the family room), the dogs are still up to their usual tricks (and mischief), M is barreling through books as quickly as I can bring them home, and of course, the sibling bickering and rivalry continues on a daily basis. Life is good.

Seven years ago.....
Dear M,
It's hard to believe that you are seven years old today. Where have the years gone?
It seems like only yesterday that you were learning to pull yourself up and walk, and now look at you. You are such an amazing little girl. You're smart, funny, silly, cute, energetic (where does all of that energy come from?), and just plain fun to be around. A set of markers and paper will keep you occupied for hours, as will a stack of books. Your love of books and all things crafty have remained a constant as you have gotten older.
You are also quite an athlete. In the next few months, you will be testing for your black belt in Tae Kwon Do. I am in awe of the focus and dedication that you have for the sport.
Daddy and I are so proud of all of your accomplishments and the special little girl young lady that you are growing up to be. You are wise beyond your years, and have much more compassion and empathy than any other seven-year-old that I have met. You are always thinking of others, and ways that you can help them and make a difference. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful little big girl.
I hope that you have an amazing seventh birthday, M! I love you very much.
Love,
Mommy

Quotables
Mommy: J, are you going to help me pick out our Halloween candy at the store?
J: Yep!
Mommy: What kind should we get?
J: ALL KINDS!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The day after our TKD school's Haunted House, while walking past the clothing at Costco, J made this observation....
J: Master J's shirt was ripped last night, so we should get him a new shirt.
Hi there...
Hi there. What's this thing? Oh, my blog. I seem to have neglected it for quite some time, which apparently is the theme of 2008.
It's actually a little surprising that I haven't posted more, seeing as how for the past two months I was sitting around doing nothing while nursing my broken foot. Good news on that front, as of Monday I am officially out of the walking boot and back in two normal shoes. I wouldn't call what I am doing walking necessarily, it's more of an affected gait, but I'm working on getting back to normal and start physical therapy soon. Even with the broken foot, things have been quite busy around here. The kids are both enjoying school, kicking butt at tae kwon do, and generally having a good time. M is also playing soccer this season, which seems to have been just enough to throw our schedule a little too much off balance. Two more weeks until the end of the season, which will slow things down a bit.
In my blog-absence, M also had a very exciting "pencil incident" at school. The girl who sat across from her apparently tried to grab M's pencil, M pulled back, and the pencil (very sharp pencil, I might add) poked through her bottom lip. Or, just below her bottom lip. The event took us to the pediatrician, surgeon's office, and finally the hospital where she was put under for them to clean it out. Even after all of that, it appears that she is going to have a permanent gray dot under her lip where the pencil went in, as graphite can be tattooing. We'll know more in another month or so what it is going to end up looking like. Thankfully, there were no complications and she is back to normal. Well, normal except for the nasty asthma cough which is taking us to the pediatrician this morning. It's always something.
The weather is turning colder, and this weekend we are off to several fun-filled Fall/Halloween-themed activities. It should be fun, and maybe I'll even post some pictures. We shall see. Who knows, I might not post again until after Thanksgiving! :)
While I'm updating, I thought I would share these two conversation tidbits from a while back.
While watching a football game....
Daddy: The Bears are gonna take a time out.
J: Why are Gussie and Gushy [her doll bears] going to get a time out?
In the car....
Mommy: This is the song that Mommy and Daddy danced to at our wedding...
M: Was I there?
Daddy: Half of both of you were there.
J: I was in Mommy's tummy!
Daddy: No, you weren't. Half of you was there in mommy's ovaries.
J: My top half or my bottom half?
I totally stole the effect idea from Jennifer's picture. Copying is the greatest form of flattery, right?
Look-alikes
Daddy: J, you have my eyes.
J: No, Daddy. We both have blue eyes, but these are my eyes. You have your own eyes.
M: She just doesn't understand.
*************************************************************
In other news, we got the call today that J made it off of the waiting list and into the morning preschool class. Yippee!! Now she will be in school five mornings a week, and with a friend. Having a friend will make the transition to the new school that much easier. Yay. :)
Quite the fashion statement
I'm hosting a little bit of a pity party for myself at the moment. I broke my foot on Wednesday morning. I'll let you decide how it happened....
a.) The kids and I were at the park when we were attacked by three ninjas. I used my taekwondo skills to fight them off, and broke my foot when I roundhouse kicked one of the attackers. You should see the other guys!!
b.) We dropped the dogs off at the groomer, and I tripped over one of the kids on our way out the door. (The kids are fine)
Unfortunately, it's the type of break that requires me to be completely off of my foot for 3-12 weeks, depending on how it's healing. So, I get to sport the stylish "walking boot" seen above and crutches for the foreseeable future. And, just a couple of weeks after getting back to taekwondo, I am out for another couple of months. I am thinking that I might be destined to be a yellow belt forever. I was actually scheduled to test for my orange belt on Wednesday night. Too bad the break didn't happen after my test.
A friend just picked the kids up to take them to the pool and give me a break, and since I haven't been sleeping at night, I need to go take advantage of these next couple of hours. More from me sometime soon....
I just discovered a positive to being on crutces... You know those motorized carts in the grocery stores? I got to use one tonight. Woohoo! It was especially exciting going in reverse and beeping. ;-)
